OOTD & Thanksgiving

Please forgive me as I try to figure out how to become a blogger. It is a skill to figure out how to document your life while still living it authentically. I have a terrible, awful, POS digi camera, however I do believe Santa is going to rectify that problem in the near future; AKA my mom and I found a sweet Black Friday deal and a new Canon PowerShot SX130 will soon be mine.

Having said all that, I did con my sweet, sweet manfriend into playing photographer for me, and I have some OOTD pics. My Thanksgiving outfit came together at the very last minute. I had been planning on wearing my Michael Kors brown leggings with a paisley tunic, but when I put it on it felt like something a grandma would wear in Atlantic City while sitting at a slot machine and smoking a cigarette. I guess I wouldn't necessairily mind being that person on somedays, but not on Thanksgiving. No, no, no.
This is the outfit I ended up going with:
Sweater: Target, Belt: Abercrombie & Fitch via Thrift
Skirt: Gap
Boots: Rocket Dog from Macy's

Peacock Earrings: Gift from my bestie
I love cooking. Every year since I can remember I've been in charge of mashed potatoes. I LOVE mashed potatoes. They're not something we eat in my house on a regular basis so they feel more special on Thanksgiving. I tried The Pioneer Woman's recipe last year, and although they were good, the potatoes were a little soupier than I'd like. This year I made sure to accurately measure my half-and-half and they turned out fluffy, lush and indulgent. This recipe calls for a stick and a half of butter and a package of cream cheese.  Holla atcha heartattack!
mashed potatoes that don't fuck around.

I also had found a recipe for sweet potato cheesecake with a gingersnap crust that sounded too good to pass up. My boyfriend loves sweet potatoes, my brother loves cheesecake and I love any dessert with fall flavors so it seemed like a nice compromise. Wednesday this year was disgusting-- freezing rain and windy as hell. I stopped at Target inbetween my shifts to buy the ingredients and they were all out of gingersnaps. Rather than brave the weather into another store, I decided to buy Pepperridge Farm Gingerman. As a sidenote, I cannot properly express in words how irritating I find it that this product is branded in the singular noun. Why, oh why? It is a package of Gingermen!!! Ugh, but I digress. I ended up scraping as much of the red sugar crystals off of the men as I could and called it a day. The cheesecake, although it cracked, tasted wonderful! Rich and autumnally flavored.
dessert and other necessities
It never ceases to amaze me how easily I can be sold. The Saturday before Thanksgiving I popped into the liquor store to buy Maker's Mark and gingerale (yum!) before a party and while I was in there the liquor store owner and his wife swindled me into buying a bottle of wine I had never heard of before, but they insisted it tasted great with turkey. I said no, but they persisted and I relented. According to the wikipedia, Beaujoulais is the only white wine that happens to be red. I thought that was cute. I liked it though. It had a bright and acidic taste.

I think I'm gonna keep it rolling with the top 5s.

TOP FIVE THINGS I LIKE MOST ABOUT THANKSGIVING
1) Tons of food = tons of leftovers
2) Hearing my mom tell the same stories as she watches the WGN Bozo (the clown) special
3) Drinking irish coffee and looking at Black Friday ads
4) Watching my beloved dog, Dixie, beg successfully all day long for turkey bites
  5) Finally having someone to spend the holiday with. I am so thankful to have Gerald by my side. Sneaking away to have dessert and Irish coffee with him was my favorite part of the day.
please excuse my whiskey eyes
