Our Big Fat American Road Trip [IX]

Instead of taking the most direct route to our hotel in Boise, we decided to take the scenic byway on highway 20. Beautiful decision.

Along highway 20 is Craters of the Moon national park, a place created as a result of volcanic eruptions that occurred 15,000 years ago with the most recent activity about 2000 years ago. I had never heard of this place, and it was eye-opening to find out about its existence.

These trees had all these branches called "witches brooms" that occur on the tree as a result of a parasite. So apocalyptic and creepy.

I didn't take any pictures in Boise. We got in late, and found a great happy hour. We stayed in a historic hotel downtown that was over 100 years old. Damn me for not capturing it, but Boise is a really cool city, and it's super inexpensive! Total traveling plus.

  1. I love those gnarly trees! :) Usually the off-the-beaten-path routes are the most scenic and wonderful at all. I love seeing the photos from your off-the-beaten-path adventure.
