I'm a Country Cat

Suggested soundtrack: Squawk by Y La Bamba

I impulse pre-ordered this record from Portland label Tender Loving Empire. It arrived in the mail this week, and it soundtracked my Sunday night in the kitchen (with a little help from Patsy Cline, too).

I think, well maybe, I'm coming out of hibernation. No one likes hearing people whine about work, so I won't, but just know, there has been a lot of it.

Because of the two-job schedule I've been rocking lately, it's made Sunday my favorite day of the week. It was absolutely beautiful in Portland yesterday. Warm and sunny. The perfect day for hitting up the local coffee shop, farmers' market, brunch, estate sale, thrifting, grocery shopping and coming home to make a nice meal. I'd describe it as my ideal day. Take a peak at my Sunday snapshots, whydontcha?

Ina's Chicken Bouillabaisse | recipe
We ate at 9 pm on a Sunday, more than an hour later than I anticipated. I gobbled it, and then took this instagram pic of a second scoop.  It's the kind of broth that makes you want to eat an entire loaf of bread. Rich, garlicky, savory, fragrant. This recipe was supposed to be served with a dallop of rouille. Have you ever tried making homemade mayo (or fancy French rouille)? It's extremely difficult. It defeated me. I want to try again. I believe I know my faults. Next time I will add the oil drop by drop. Even if that wasn't in the directions, Ina.
